Disney World is quickly becoming a popular destination not just for children but adult “children” as well. My family decided not to spend money on Christmas gifts this year, instead we decided to take a trip. Mom and Dad picked Disney World. It was lots of work to plan the trip, will share tips in another blog post soon, and even more work picking out just the right outfit to wear.
Picking out which fast pass ride is tough, but I think picking what to wear can be tougher and more stressful, also at almost any time of year. I was there in January and one day it was hot and the next it was chilly.
So how do you pack and plan what to wear while at Disney World?
Make sure you check out the weather about a week before. It does change quickly but it gives you a rough idea of what to expect. It also helps you pack other necessities such as ponchos, umbrellas, waterproof shoes, ect.
First think about layers. The item I wore the most was a denim jacket. It went with everything and was easy and light weight to wear or hold. Spanx leggings are another must in the winter and early spring. You don’t sweat and they are perfect for long tunic tops and t-shirts.
Finding fun Disney themed tees and gear is easy, but you must plan ahead of time, so it can be shipped before you leave for your trip. I does save you money in the end ordering off online stores and not shopping at Disney. I ordered family tees from The Home T company. They have a great selection and you will 100% wear them again. My sister also made us iron on graphics for a matching tee we each got with her silhouette/ cricket. Here are links to a few Etsy print outs. Mine said ” Oh mickey your so fine”. Target, H&M, and Abercrombie always have a few Disney / Mickey tees. While we were at Disney Spings we came across a new store that had great mickey tees under $15, we felt like we hit the JACKPOT. They had great selections for the entire family.
What does do you wear?
Comfortable shoes are the most important choice you make. Shoes are a make or break when going to Disney. On the first day we walked over 15 miles. You can only imagine how important it is to have comfortable shoes. I also don’t suggest wearing a new pair. Make sure you break in your new shoes. I know having them match your outfits is important, so outfit planning about a month out is key. I wore my Adidas pink tennis shoes (and missed my Babolat tennis racquets and tennis court back home) and they matched all my outfits perfectly and my feet didn’t hurt once.
Plan to bring something special to wear for a night out for a nice dinner. We had dinner on the rooftop of our hotel and had a special viewing deck of the Magic Kingdom fireworks. It was amazing and so nice to get dressed up and enjoy a culinary experience without rushing at one of the parks. Most fine dining restaurants at Disney have dress codes. So check with your trip coordinator or the restaurant website to plan accordingly.
Minnie Ears are a must have at Disney. If you don’t have them I promise you will have FOMO. The thing with buying them at Disney is the price tag. They are pretty expensive and might now match your outfits. My mom, sister and I picked out a few different pairs so we could switch them up and have a new pair to wear each day. I was able to get 3 pairs for the price of one at Disney World. I received so many compliments on the ears and they were very unique.
Going to Disney is very exciting and lots of memories will be made, but it’s not really a vacation. You have to walk a lot, plan every move you make, make sure you are comfortable and try not to spend more than you have to. But the most important part is making sure you are comfortable in your clothes and shoes. Please see links below to all the looks I took to with me to wear.
